POW!

POW was a hit at LVS on Tuesday night, with over 81 students attending! I was happy to hear that their were many of our very only 5M participants as well! What a great opportunity for all students. Here is a picture of our own Julia Gabriel, assisting with the demonstration at the school.
By the end of the demonstration, many kids from the school joined in dancing.

February is a Busy Month!

This month is already flying by and we haven't even gotten to the busy events yet! This week we will be having a Valentines Day Party on Thursday afternoon. A note and class list will be sent home today with details.

Next week is where it really gets busy! There is no school on Monday February 18th for Louis Riel Day, and on the 19th we are going to Festival du Voyageur! Permission slips and money for the trip are due this week. Parent Teacher forms with desired dates to attend Student Led Conferences are also due on February 12th. We also have swimming next Wednesday morning (February 20th) , and Student Led Conferences on Thursday evening and Friday during the day of next week.

Our class is also joint hosting the Respect Assembly on February 28th, so students are busy preparing our portfolios for Student Led Conferences and getting things ready for our Percy Jackson Project for the assembly, the busy part of the month is approaching and things are looking great!

Respecting Diversity

Our first week of 2013 was spent learning about ourselves, our multiple intelligences and our learning styles. We started off the week talking about being tolerant, respectful and kind to all individuals despite our differences.

We then continued the week with lessons about learning about ourselves as learners. As a class, students filled in a survey about their likes and interests. We took that information and graphed our multiple intelligences which tell us about our learning styles.

Students then took ownership of their multiple intelligence and agreed to assist others with their specialty if asked, and we constructed a Classroom Brain that students can refer to. We then discussed the importance of knowing that we all learn in different ways, rates and styles.

We are beginning to wrap up our lesson on multiple intelligences, we are finishing by discussing careers that are connected to the multiple intelligences, and we're going to discuss what the world would look like if everyone had the same multiple intelligence, and what it would look like if we were missing each of them. The students really seemed to enjoy learning about themselves, and discussing how we are all different and embracing those differences - Respecting Diversity. It was a great experience to be apart of.
