Kicking off 2015!

Happy New Year and welcome back 5M! It has definitely been a chilly start to 2015, but hopefully it warms up soon so the kids can go on the hills at the back that have been added to recently. We started the 2015 discussing new goals to set and accomplish this term. I am looking forward to the next 6 months of hard work with this class!

Student Led Conferences

During this short week of school students have been busy putting together their portfolios and practicing sharing their portfolios with one another and other students in other classes. For the Student Led Conferences, students will share their portfolios with their guests, and then students and their guests will have a quick discussion with me to go over the students academic and behaviour checklists. The students in 5M have been working hard all term and are excited to share their progress! Reminder that their are 3 families scheduled at a time, so there can potential be several people in the room at once so it is important to come at your scheduled time so as not to have more than the 3 families as it can become crowded and difficult for students to share their portfolio.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween! This afternoon 5M enjoyed some free play time which involved some pretty sweet dance moves doing Just Dance on the Smartboard, a sock-hop at recess and finished the day with Minute to Win it games. It was a great afternoon with a great bunch of kids! I hope you had a safe Halloween evening gathering all sorts of goodies. Reminder that there is no school on Monday so you have an extra long weekend to gobble up those treats!

The Minute to Win it tie breaker! The Hallo-Weiners pulled through and defeated the pirates in the Face the Cookie challenge. Awesome job to all competitors!

5M's First Swim!

Great time had by all at the pool on Wednesday! The tubes were out, we had tag in the lazy river, and laughter could be heard bouncing off the walls in the PCU. I'm looking forward to the upcoming times we have in the pool!

Mulvey's M&M's, the Brain and Twitter

Our classroom name was chosen by the students and we are Ms. Mulvey's M&M's. The past few days we have been working together and building a safe classroom community. Part of this team building has been acknowledging and celebrating our differences - our strengths and our struggles. We all have different strengths and we can help each other out with our struggles. One of the activities that we did to acknowledge and celebrate our strengths is create a classroom brain.
Every student has a wrinkle on our classroom brain and they have claimed that wrinkle with their name and their highest multiple intelligence (as determined by a survey). We are all different kinds of smart and as a class we work together to strengthen our smarts and to help each other out with our struggles.
Our Twitter account has been set up and is running - you can follow us at @MsMulveysClass. Students will be tweeting weekly and I will also send out tweets with reminders of swimming, and any other special events coming up.
