Student Led Conferences

During this short week of school students have been busy putting together their portfolios and practicing sharing their portfolios with one another and other students in other classes. For the Student Led Conferences, students will share their portfolios with their guests, and then students and their guests will have a quick discussion with me to go over the students academic and behaviour checklists. The students in 5M have been working hard all term and are excited to share their progress! Reminder that their are 3 families scheduled at a time, so there can potential be several people in the room at once so it is important to come at your scheduled time so as not to have more than the 3 families as it can become crowded and difficult for students to share their portfolio.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween! This afternoon 5M enjoyed some free play time which involved some pretty sweet dance moves doing Just Dance on the Smartboard, a sock-hop at recess and finished the day with Minute to Win it games. It was a great afternoon with a great bunch of kids! I hope you had a safe Halloween evening gathering all sorts of goodies. Reminder that there is no school on Monday so you have an extra long weekend to gobble up those treats!

The Minute to Win it tie breaker! The Hallo-Weiners pulled through and defeated the pirates in the Face the Cookie challenge. Awesome job to all competitors!

5M's First Swim!

Great time had by all at the pool on Wednesday! The tubes were out, we had tag in the lazy river, and laughter could be heard bouncing off the walls in the PCU. I'm looking forward to the upcoming times we have in the pool!

Mulvey's M&M's, the Brain and Twitter

Our classroom name was chosen by the students and we are Ms. Mulvey's M&M's. The past few days we have been working together and building a safe classroom community. Part of this team building has been acknowledging and celebrating our differences - our strengths and our struggles. We all have different strengths and we can help each other out with our struggles. One of the activities that we did to acknowledge and celebrate our strengths is create a classroom brain.
Every student has a wrinkle on our classroom brain and they have claimed that wrinkle with their name and their highest multiple intelligence (as determined by a survey). We are all different kinds of smart and as a class we work together to strengthen our smarts and to help each other out with our struggles.
Our Twitter account has been set up and is running - you can follow us at @MsMulveysClass. Students will be tweeting weekly and I will also send out tweets with reminders of swimming, and any other special events coming up.

Welcome Mulvey's M&M's!

The first 2 days of school last week just flew by! There is so much to do and so many routines to get established! Our classroom name is Mulvey's M&M's and we are looking forward to a great year together. This blog has important dates listed, as well as internet games that the students can use to practice their skills. I look forward to working with you all this year! I will post about our Twitter Account as soon as it's up and running!

Time is Flying!

It's hard to believe that in 2 short months this year will be over! We have many exciting things coming up in the upcoming weeks (swimming, track and field, science olympics, etc) So students need to ensure that they are bringing their agenda back and forth to school and making sure it is seen. We want to ensure that you are aware of the many activities that are to come!

Have and Safe and Enjoyable Spring Break!

Well hopefully Spring starts to show it's face during the break! We are finishing our week making some purchases at the Mulvey's Sharpe Shop this morning and watching Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters this afternoon. The kids made some truly wonderful Percy Jackson board games this week, so we are celebrating the end of the book and board games by watching the movie and eating treats!

Wishing you a safe and enjoyable break and we will see you on April 7th!

A huge congratulations to the 4 students in 5M who were brave enough to perform their poem to a crowd at Ecole Arthur Meighen School last night. All 4 students did a wonderful job, you represented our school well, we are so proud of you! Special shout out to Jacinda Houle who placed 3rd in the Grade 5-6 category! Well done 5M!

Mulvey's Minions Have Joined Twitter!

Our class has just made a classroom Twitter account and our user name is MulveysMinions. We have just started tweeting today! There are many ways that we can use Twitter in the classroom, and there are certainly some ideas of how we will use it, but to start it off we will be posting interesting facts found by the students. Everyday one student will be selected to use the ipad to find an interesting fact and to tweet it for the class. I may also use the Twitter account to tweet reminders for the classroom  things such as swimming, etc. If you have Twitter account, I encourage you to follow our class!
